A proven CIO and transformational executive, John specializes in turning underperforming technology functions into strategic, highly reliable pillars businesses can confidently plan around. His distinctive edge lies in combining broad enterprise infrastructure and regulatory expertise with hands-on, highly technical capabilities in Artificial Intelligence.
Most recently, John served as Group Vice President of Infrastructure and Operations at Fisher Investments. Guiding the firm through a period of massive growth approaching 10,000 employees, he led a global technology organization of over 300 professionals. As the firm’s named Cloud Officer for its European operations under strict CSSF supervision, John held named regulatory accountability while overseeing complex M&A integrations and divestiture carve-outs. He modernized core platforms without business interruption, rebuilt the global network to yield eight times the bandwidth at significantly lower costs, and defined the firm’s multi-year AI strategy and governance policies. Under his leadership, the technology department achieved its highest-ever employee satisfaction scores.
Before Fisher Investments, John spent over two decades in progressive leadership roles at Seagate Technology, culminating as Vice President of Infrastructure Security Operations and Architecture. At Seagate, he managed complex global networks and security architectures for a 40,000-person manufacturer with factory and engineering networks spanning 40 countries. He consistently drove enterprise-wide transformation, including complex M&A technology due diligence, comprehensive WAN modernizations, and pioneering early enterprise adoption of Google Cloud for predictive machine learning.
Uniquely for an enterprise technology executive of his scale, John is a deep technical practitioner who actively builds with AI rather than simply overseeing it. He personally writes, integrates, and ships live AI systems and native applications, giving him a practitioner’s insight into the technology’s true capabilities and limitations.
Alongside his role at CXO Partners, John serves as an Executive Advisor at Bridgepointe Technologies and is a member of the Akamai Customer Advisory Board. He leverages his rare blend of global infrastructure scale, European regulatory accountability, and applied AI development to drive strategic technology transformations for enterprise-level and private equity portfolio companies.
John received his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from the University of California, Santa Cruz. He is also a licensed avionics mechanic.
